Jewish tours of Israel often include important sites such as that of the Tomb of Rabbi Judah Nesiah in Tzippori. The grandson of Rabbi Judah the Prince, Rabbi Judah Nesiah lived from 230-270CE. In accordance with tradition he asked to be buried in Tzippori, despite the fact that he was head of the Sanhedrin in Tiberias. Judah Nesiah has been recognized for pushing the importance of Torah education and reconciling issues between opinionated sages. Visitors have made their way to Rabbi Judah Nesiah's tomb since the Middle Ages, which is when it was reconstructed. Though the tomb of Rabbi Judah Nesiah in Tzippori was reconstructed, you can still see parts of the original Roman tomb-standing pit for mourners in the middle and a thick stone doorway with burial niches on either side. Pilgrims on Jewish tours who wish to visit the tomb must do so through Moshav Tzippori.
