Containing more than 40 monasteries, churches and hostels (built for Christians on a pilgrimage to Israel), the Christian Quarter in the Old City is an amazing place to pay a visit while you travel in Israel. The Church of the Holy Sepulcher (the Church of the Resurrection) lies in the heart of the Christian quarter and marks the spot where Jesus was crucified and buried at Calvary Hill or Golgotha. The Via Colorosa follows the final walk of Jesus from the courthouse to where he was crucified and is a popular part of many tourists' visits to the Christian Quarter. Other sites that are often visited on Israel guided tours include the tomb, the rotunda and the Stone of Anointing. Also popular is the market, which is located in the Christian quarter. A mix of loud noises and beautiful colors, tourists often enjoy haggling with merchants for fabrics, jewelry, rugs and just about anything else you can imagine. A trip to the market in the Christian Quarter should not be missed!
