Located 15 miles northwest of Safed, the heartland of Kabalah, Meron is home to the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai-a rebel against Rome and the one responsible for writing the Zohar. Next to Rabbi Shomon's tomb sits the burial cave of Rabbi Hillel the Elder and a pool of water that is a source of blessing. In Meron you will also want to visit the Meron synagogue, which faces Jerusalem and dates back to the 3rd century CE. If you'd like to take in some of the natural wonder during your travel in Israel, visit Mount Meron-the forest-covered summit that stands 3,000ft high with a web of trails.
