Tel Hai

For travelers that like to see the places in which history took place first-hand, Tel Hai is a place you must see on your Israel tour. Tel Hai is the site that honors the people of Hula Valley who defended their homes to the death. The nearby village of Kiryat Shmona is named after the 8 pioneers who died there. Founded by a group of Hashomer guards in 1916, Tel Hai became home to an organization that believed that only Jews should be allowed to guard Jewish settlements. Tel Hai transferred to French rule after WWI like many other Galilee settlements. Tel Hai was eventually abandoned because of the battles that took place around it, however, the people returned home to rebuild once things calmed. For this reason, Tel Hai is considered to be a symbol of heroism. A memorial ceremony is held on the 11th of Adar for Trumpledor and his comrades for their heroic fighting in the battles they fought. Tel Hai remains unchanged to this day, which is often a lovely find for most visitors on Israel tours.
