If you're the type of person that would like to visit less-known sites on your Pilgrimage to Israel, take a moment to visit St. Peter's Church in Tiberias. Located off of the restaurant-lined Sea of Galilee promenade, the Church of St. Peter is located in Tiberias. Build around 1100, the walls of the church are bowed out from the altar to the back similar to a boat, paying tribute to the fact that Peter fished in the nearby lake. Refurbished by the Franciscans in 1757, a memorial to the Free Polish Army was built in the courtyard in 1945. Further restorations have been done since, bringing back some of the church's original masonry. If you visit St. Peter's Church on your Israel tour, look for the mosaic that shows Peter in a boat with the words Jesus spoke to him regarding his position as the rock that could withstand the Gates of Hades (Matt 16:18).
