Solomon's quarries

For those looking for an interesting destination on their trip to Israel, Solomon's quarry is always a fascinating choice. Also referred to as Zedekiah's Caves, as it was once part of the escape route for the King when he fled from the Babylonians, there is a humongous underground cavern that runs below the majority of the Muslim Quarter of the Old City. The cavern is part of the quarry that goes all the way up to the Garden Tomb's Golgotha. Some believe it may have been used to obtain stone for the First Temple period during King Solomon's reign because of the denseness of the limestone it holds. This cave has been an important site to Freemasons as well as Christians.
