Sea of Galilee (The Kineret Lake)

A well-known body of water amongst the Christian community, the Sea of Galilee is a regular stop on many Christian Israel tours. The largest fresh water reservoir in Israel, Lake Kineret is said to often reflect the national spirit through its water level. It is Israel's most important water source for drinking water, which is one of the many reasons it is a national symbol and popular tourist spot. There are many varying beaches around the Sea of Galilee, making for different experiences in different spots. Some of the beaches are covered with smooth sand while others have craggy rocks; some are narrow and some are quite wide. Regardless of which area you stop in, you will have many fun and interesting things to do and plenty of places to stay. Lake Kineret is more than just a fun vacation spot as it has many Christian ties and is a favorite pilgrimage site for individuals on tours to the Holy Land. It is believed amongst the Christian community that Jesus preached, lived and performed some of his miracles in and around the Kineret. It was on the Sea of Galilee that he walked on water and nearby where he performed the miracle of the loaves and fish in Capernaum or Kfar Nakhum. Some of the other popular Christian sites near the Kineret includes, the Mount of Beatitudes, the Church of the Loaves and Fishes, Kfar Nakhum, Kursi, Migdal, Tel Hadar, Beilt Tsida, Ubeidiya, Moshavat Kineret, Kibbutz Dganya Alef and the city of Tiberias. Spending some time in and around the Kineret Lake is definitely worthwhile when on a tour to the Holy Land.
