Russian Orthodox Cathedral in the Russian Compound Jerusalem

Located one block east of Jaffa road in the middle of downtown Jerusalem, the Holy Trinity Cathedral is an impressive structure that should be visited on Israel escorted tours of any nature. Consecrated in 1872, the church and many of the buildings around it were built during the period of time when the Russian Orthodox Church send far more people to the Holy Land than any other denomination. The compound that offered places to stay for up to 2,000 people was put in a location chosen for its closeness to the Old City and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. Russian influenced eventually waned and died, so the buildings were converted into other things. The Russian Orthodox Cathedral was recently restored and opens its doors welcoming to visitors every day except Monday until 1:00 P.M. The interior of the church is beautiful and well worth a stop on a pilgrimage to Israel.
