Kursi

Kursi is a very popular destination for many Christian Holy Land tours as it is the site where Jesus cast demons into a heard of pigs that threw themselves off a cliff into the lake (Matt. 8:28-34, Mark 5:1-17 and Luke 8:26-37). It is a very exciting place to visit and its rediscovery and restoration was a monumental moment for Christians everywhere. This site was lost at one point, like Bethsaida and Chorazin, as a result of the difficult years ago for travelers to go great distances. It also didn't help that this site is referred to by several different names in the bible. Its rediscovery is a bit of an ironic tale, as a beautiful church was found approximately 30 years ago as a result of road construction. It was discovered that Byzantine Christians had built a great tower next to a "steep place". Scholars realized that the ancient Jewish name for this site was very similar to the one in the Gospels, they determined it must be the location where the Miracle of the Swine occurred.
