Dominus Flevit

Though ancient sites are often the focus of trips to Israel, Dominus Flevit ("The Lord Wept") is a newer chapel that is worth visiting! Constructed in 1955 over the site of a Byzantine construction, this chapel honors the occasion when Jesus looked at Jerusalem and realized that it was going to be responsible for its own demise through violence, which caused him to weep passionately. Though the chapel itself is not very old, it is built on top of the remains of a Byzantine church as well as a portion of the 1st century necropolis that encompassed the city. Those who take Holy Land Israel tours to Dominus Flevit will enjoy a truly breathtaking view.

Luke Chapter 19:41-44

41 And when he drew near and saw the city he wept over it, 42 saying, "Would that even today you knew the things that make for peace! But now they are hid from your eyes. 43 For the days shall come upon you, when your enemies will cast up a bank about you and surround you, and hem you in on every side, 44 and dash you to the ground, you and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another in you; because you did not know the time of your visitation."
